Davis has been visiting with refugees in the Dadaab camp in Kenya, and she told LookToTheStars that what she has seen there has left quite an impact. The refugees in Dadaab are fleeing not only from war, but from areas of drought that are causing the food shortage. As well documented, changes in global weather patterns are one of the primary culprits for the growing global food shortage.
Said Davis, “I feel shocked to see what these people have gone through. I met women who have walked for 20 days through the desert, with children dying on the way, only to arrive at a camp where there is hardly any food and water to go around. We must not allow this to happen in this day and age. Anything that you can give will help people who have absolutely nothing.”
To help, Oxfam has begun an emergency campaign, which you can donate to here, to help get food, water, emergency assistance and medical treatment for the malnourished people of East Africa. They’re hoping to raise fifty million pounds to help the twelve million people who are starving and in need of sanitation and clean drinking water. Literally thousands of refugees come to Dadaab camp each day, and as more people arrive, the need for help is even strong.
Again, you can make a donation here, or by texting CRISIS to 70000 to make a five pound donation (do your own currency conversion people!).

Back in the Sex and the City days, Kristin Davis’ character Charlotte York would never have gone hungry – there were too many posh Fifth Avenue restaurants to enjoy. However, in her post-SATC life, Davis has been traveling with Oxfam to learn more about the food crisis in Kenya. And what she’s learning should be paid attention to, because the global food shortage is an increasingly important topic that will need to be addressed not just by celebrities but also by governments and, yes, individuals.
