Bird, who is now a local green living icon (which is a challenge in eco friendly California), completed projects such as plastic bottle benches as well as glass bottle structures which were placed around campus. And why? Because, according to folks over at Good.is, it was because he wanted to have a New Year’s resolution that would “actually make a difference.”
However, we, including Bird, consume non-biodegradable packaging at such a rate that he’ll be building his way out of his 2010 resolution for a while. Bird’s bedroom is currently filled with a remaining one hundred and eighty-eight pounds of trash – which is more than Bird himself weighs! Not surprisingly, the majority of that trash is comprised of glass bottles from, well beer. After all, in his own words, Bird is a “college student who enjoys partying.” Indeed, Mr. Bird, indeed. We would like to hang out with you some day.

Bird was recently recongnized by Think Green, Live Green as America’s Greenest Student and is planning to spend 2011 expanding his project. Tiny Green Bubble would like to recognize Bird as America’s Greenest College Student Who Likes to Partay, which, while not as high an honor is still pretty freakin’ cool.
Perhaps it’s time to evaluate your New Year’s Resolution. It’s never too late to tack on a new one before the month ends!

Imagine, briefly, that it was a year ago and you were setting your 2010 New Year’s resolutions. What did you resolve? Was it to lose weight? To spend less? Was it a sustainable and eco friendly New Year’s resolution? And did you keep it? Well, last year, Brennan Bird, a senior at UC Davis made a sustainability resolution to save every piece of his non-biodegradable waste packaging for the year and then repurpose all of the material he saved into upcycled and recycled building projects. And you know what? He kept his resolution.
