Recycled Rice Bag Backpack

recycled rice bag back packWe originally dug this recycled backpack up because we wanted to encourage using ethical clothing and recycled backpacks for back-to-school time in an effort to keep people green with their back to school shopping. However, we fell in love with it so much that we actually started recommending it for everything from a laptop bag to a gym bag and beyond. The backpack is made entirely from recycled jute rice bags.

Jute, in case you didn’t know, is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fiber that’s spun into thread and, of course, made into bags. The thread is coarse and strong, and chances are you’ve encountered it when buying rice or potatoes. It's also used to make belts and handbags. (Both the belts and handbags are lovely, so you may want to check them out!)

So what does that mean? It means that this backpack has a minimal, minimal carbon footprint. The original material of the bag was a natural, plant-based fiber, and the fact that it’s getting re-used means zero waste from turning it into a fiber!

But here’s what really matters, of course, the backpack just looks incredibly cool. It’s also lined for extra durability (because, in truth, jute can fray). In addition to the coolness of the rice bags, there’s an eco-friendly and fashion-hip wooden button to close the backpack. And tons of pockets – three to be exact! A front pocket and two side pockets, all with the same cool wood button closures. Adjustable straps so you’re always comfortable. The recycled backpack is 18 inches deep, 12 inches across and 7 inches wide. Plenty of space for whatever you need. Trust us. We need a lot of stuff before we walk out of the door.

Like many recycled and ethical clothing and bag options, each of these backpacks is entirely unique, so you’ll get to be surprised when yours arrives. You’ll also get to feel good about your purchase choice and look cool when you’re out and about.

We love it when ethical and recycled clothing and great looking products that we’d want to be seen with come together. Get on the recycled backpack train today!
